In June 2014, Bennett Construction Ltd made a donation to the Russel Park Community Project at Lymington Avenue, London.
In July, Hornsey and Wood Green MP Catherine West paid a special visit to Russell Park to celebrate the green makeover of a much loved garden as part of two community projects.
The MP saw the work that leading housing and care provider Sanctuary Group has supported through its local development partner Bennett Construction. This includes the sprucing up of parts of Russell Park in Wood Green and the creation of a new outdoor shelter at nearby Noel Park Children’s Centre.
The improvements at the park include a revamp of the raised beds, disabled access to beds for wheelchair users, and the installation of secure fencing around the perimeter.
The new specially designed shelter in the outdoor play area of Noel Park Children’s Centre means that young children are now able to play outside whatever the weather.
Jacquie Aqyemang-Johnson, development manager at Sanctuary, commented: “We are keen to support projects like these, as we understand the benefits and how they bring the community closer together”
James Floyde, chair of Friends of Russell Park, said: “The garden has caught the attraction of local residents and visitors alike. There are more people who care about the community garden as well as the park and we hope the new look garden will encourage more volunteers to join us.”
Both projects have been supported as a direct result of Sanctuary’s £14.7m housing development, Artizan Court, a new housing scheme, comprising 66 energy efficient apartments and retail units at Lymington Avenue. Constructed by Bennetts Construction, the homes are a mix of shared ownership and affordable rent, of which seven have been designed especially for wheelchair users.
Anthony McDermott, Project Manager at Bennett Construction, added: “We thoroughly enjoyed the working relationship built up with Sanctuary on the development of Artizan Court and we feel privileged to have been given the opportunity to work on the communal garden and children’s shelter at Russell Park. We wish them many happy days in the park.
